26 MayI’m Kinda losing my head posting these images late night so here’s a song that I dig that’s more about losing yourself to the beat of the drum. Hope you enjoy.
Dixon May Fair, Demolition Derby
24 MayI had the privilege to photograph the demolition derby in Dixon, California and it was a blast! I had no idea what to expect since this was my first. I figured it would be a bunch of crazed individuals who just had an itch for destruction and chaos, but I stood corrected. These guys weren’t crazy at all. I mean, a lil, to want to slam into each other but no crazier than an extreme sport. What I did find was a lot of camaraderie. About half of them looked like they were in their early twenties, carrying out a family tradition. Most of them had a large team of friends and family working together to prep their cars. There was a lot of last minute welding, sledge hammering and even the use of a bulldozer to crush the back end of a car for proper slam satisfaction. The whole show was a ton of fun. They had a witty announcer giving blow by blow commentary, cracking jokes at any chance he got and getting the audience to play along. The best part is the obvious–watching the last cars clobbering each other like old boxers in a ring. They’re giving their final blows, bruised up and broken down. You think they’ve got nothing left in the tank, but they keep slugging away and skidding through that mud until that final blow puts to rest all but one. This experience made me a fan over night. I recommend checking out a demolition derby at your local fair this summer. It’s just good ol’ American entertainment and to top it off you get to drive back home without a scratch.

7 MarThanks to my buddy Jericho Green I got this image. He helped me out that night. I came down with an ugly cold and couldn’t ride around like I usually do with my camera gear to find some new flicks. So we drove out and because he was curious about this one area I got this shot. There’s no way I would have taken it if it wasn’t for J’s gut feeling. Thanks J!
